Salvaged Style- Designer review- Melissa Lockwood

The ideology of IQTEST garments..
In looking at the potentials beyond the original purpose, IQ Test sees lots of resources exist, not wastes.
The fabric IQTEST uses is what the mass producing designers throw away. Building a collection around this raw material is not “easy” and labor intensive!
Large scale fabric cutting factories send tons of fabric to landfills each day. Much of the fabric could be recycled into rags, yarn or new fabric. Instead the fabric is thrown away adding toxic dyes to the environment. Additionally the process of creating the fabric in the first place uses energy and causes pollution The IQTEST garments are made through the up cycling! Through their intervention, salvaged fabric is kept out of the landfills. If large pieces are salvaged these are cut into garments. Smaller remnant and scraps are made into a garment its shape facilitates.
IQTEST also works to inform the public about the waste and encourage reform. There are few or no laws governing the creation and disposal of textiles waste. IQTEST works to create environmentally friendly one of a kind wearable art
Featured bright leggings – This line is made with bright Lycras, each Piece has the same style, but all are made with different fabric colors and patterns.
“IQTEST is about EQUALITY and this is expressed through the idea of non discriminatory selection. IQTEST doesn’t choose the fabric it gets what is available… IQTEST then, challenges the wearer/buyer to take a chance and receive a garment with a surprise color and pattern. The items are always unique just like each wearer.”Thank you, Melissa http://www.iqtest-nyc.com

By the end of my review on Melissa Lockwood, a sustainable clothing designer in Brooklyn I had gained a new respect for her talent, and come to the conclusion that
“Clothing becomes fashion when it is relevant to our times, Art when it challenges us to look within ourselves!”… Bonnie Sandy
