The Concept of Community.

I’ve been so busy that  I’m filing this one week later but not oo late for you to cannot enjoy this sleepy neighborhood That has a life of it’s own. I lovingly refer to this area as Bogolan the name given to it by the community that built it up in the mid to late 1990′s.

I took a brief stop on Sunday to capture that Brooklyn Scene, the neighborhood changes, the people, the vibe, the fashion! By Train this is the C train to Lafayette Stop: A good destination for an evening stroll. It’s also one of the neighborhoods we’ll be bringing some segments of BFGLive.-

At Vanderbilt and Fulton, Raif Atelier was open…on a Sunday. That was strange enough to draw a second look. Which was when I noticed that his traditional bias cut dresses, which beautifully drape the local physique were now also painted? Late for the tri- state computer fair at Polytechnic on Jay Street I did not stop, But I promise That we will bring our unique take on Raif in the coming months.

With the closure of 4w Circle of Art and Enterprise, two local businesses are ‘taking up the mission of supporting others. Tribal Truth collection , has a vendors market most Saturdays till summers end, At Courtney Washington’s’ Jacob’s  Eye host an assortment of vendors with their wares.

There, I met Shaz one my former models now in the role of business owner, “repping” body

products from France as well as Malchijah’s custom line of hats including some great tye-dyed linen/Straw hats. Arleen gall former proprietress of The Downtown showroom was present… Now “reppin”g Courtney Washington and several other Designers, arleen is a walking experience in Salesmanship! Marcia Pendelton of Walk Tall Girl Productions quietly sat by enjoying the scenery!

The regular’s were open, the barber shop, Habana Outpost and the pizza joint, My former hangout Frank’s is now a hardware store, and the former hardware store seem to be getting ready to host a “beer Joint”.  If the streets were packed it was solely the workings of the crew at Cake Man Raven’s celebrating their 9^th annual family and friends appreciation day! When you love what you do it shows and this man loves what he does! There was the usual vendors, performers and line for “Red Velvet” cake. I “bounced” into Janice from J and L Hand soaps, you can find her online.

There are several ways we see the space around us for many it is a collage fused one on top

of the other. It’s often times that way here at the gallery, a constant procession of fashion and style images, each in their own context believing they are “new” and innovative; different as such from their neighbor, after more than a decade in Brooklyn very little peaks my interest. So when something different comes up we notice it as we have with the changes in Fort Green ‘s Bogolan community, Manhattan may be shades of grey,  Brooklyn is full of color it’s a mix of urban jungle, eclectic cultures and eccentric personalities.
